The city of Johannesburg says its confident it will win the war against property hijackers.

So far, the Group Forensic and Investigation Services Unit are working and in glove with the the residents of Johannesburg.

It is alleged that some of the residential properties have turned into hubs for criminal activity.

The unit's spokesperson, Lucky Sindane, says some government officials are involved in these syndicates.

When they come to you they produce documents that look legitimate... they're dealing with a syndicate here.

"We're grateful to Joburg residents who have faith in us to say we've reported these cases to SAPS for years, but nothing has happened," he said.

"Up to so far, we've handed 56 properties to the rightful owners. They tell us who are the hijackers. These hijackers take advantage of poor people coming to the city. It will take time, but we'll slowly get there. We're now seeing results"

The question yet unanswered was what happened to the hijackers. Were they arrested by the police? Are there plans to prosecute them?

South Africans are still not satisfied with the fact that houses are reclaimed and nothing was said about the hijackers.
