A severe power outage has affected large portions of Durban

A TRANSMISSION FAILURE has caused power outages in several Durban areas.


eThekwini Municipality announced that outages have been reported in Madiba Valley, Somerset Park, Mount Edgecombe, Clairwood, the Bluff, Morningside, and Westmead.

Please be advised that we are aware of the outages impacting these areas and that our technicians are working to restore electricity," the municipality stated.


A Hillary resident, who did not want to be identified, reported that they had been without power since Thursday afternoon.


"We reported the incident. Despite the fact that I have two reference numbers, nothing has been done. The food is defrosting. "It's been more than 18.5 hours," the resident noted.

Another person, who did not want to be identified, said he had been without power for 17 hours.


Ndengezi, Umlazi M, Umdloti/La Mercy, Alverstone, Malukazi/Lotus Park/Orient, Malvern, Umlazi J Section, Hambanathi, Umhlanga, Somerset Park - Chedder Close, Engonyameni, and Berkshire Downs/New Germany are also affected.


For more than a week, the arty Glenwood neighborhood has been plagued by power disruptions that have enraged residents.

At the time of publication, it was unknown when the power would be restored.
