Floods is a natural occurrence which turn to the overflow of water. Floods are the most frequent type of natural disaster and occur when an overflow of water submerges land that is usually dry. Floods can happen during heavy rains, when oceans waves come on shore,when snow melts quickly or when dams or leeves break. They can also happen when a storm surge from a tropical cyclone or tsunami in coastal areas. Flash floods occur when heavy rainfall exceeds the ability of the ground to absorb it.
The KwaZulu-Natal province experience floods. The flooding which is caused by a heavy rainfall in Ladysmith has already led to atleast to 70 people being homeless, their houses were destroyed by floods. Some properties were damaged. This region was hardly hit by a heavy rainfall over the weekend and this is likely to continue. The heavy rainfall led to the Kliprivier bursting its banks and flooding parts of the ladysmith CBD.
Since some homes were destroyed and people were left homeless, residents were evacuated from ladysmith flooded areas to an indoor sport center.
