Corrupt Cop Sentenced to Six Years For R150 Bribe

There are always allegations of corrupt police officers, whether they are from the South African Police Services (SAPS) or from the Metro Police, ordinary citizens who drive on our roads might have experienced a situation whereby they are forced to bribe a police officer one way or the other. In many of such incidents these corrupt police officers get away with their crimes as they terrorise citizens, instead of upholding the law and be ethical about their job these men and women in blue choose to abuse their power.

We cannot be fighting against criminals on our roads and then at the same time we have to protect our selves from corrupt police officers. There was an incident that happened in the Volsloorus are in Ekurhuleni whereby a 49 year old controversial Metro Police officer who is a constable in the Ekurhuleni Metro Police, he eventually bullied a driver as he demanded R300 from the driver, and then he threatened to impound their vehicle for no valid reason.

Probably out of fear and because the driver wanted to keep their vehicle he gave Constable Mzwandile Makaula half of the amount that he demanded (R150), and then they scheduled to make further payment later on the day where they agreed to meet in a shopping complex in the Vosloorus area. The victim eventually did the right thing as they contacted the Hawks, the Serious Corruption Investigation Unit from the Germiston office.

The members of the Hawks responded and they conducted a sting operation in that shopping complex and the corrupt cop was caught red handed for abusing his power as a police officer. He was arrested and made his day in court, and the justice system worked in favor of the victim as Makaula was sentenced to six years imprisonment. It must be said that this was a job well done by the members of the Hawks and for the victim to decide reporting this matter, and its highly likely that this cop has been doing this deed for a long time.
