The Specialist Section Durban Cluster announces the conviction and sentencing of Sifiso Bhengu on charges of robbery with Aggravating circumstances, Housebreaking and Attemted Murder. The Accused broke into the home of the victim where the victim managed to flee outside with his daughter.
The Accused followed and attacked the victim and struck him several times with a panga, and made off with a cellphone. It was a very grievous assault, the accused was traced through hard work by CCPO and ET Rapid Response. This case is a perfect synergy of saps investigation, community policing via CCPO and aided further by private security company - ET Rapid Response.
All Role players coming together in law enforcement. After a long drawn out trial, the Specialist Prosecutor Mr Nzuza, secured a conviction. Well done to the Prosecutor, as well as the Cst LP Gumede. Gumede was on the ball with the investigation from the onset. This led to an expeditious arrest after the accused being on the run for 4 days.
We also acknowledge the community members - CCPO - who took an active interest in assisting the police, as well as *ET Rapid Response* for their pro-active role in law enforcement.
The Accused was sentenced as follows:
•House Breaking with Agrevating Circumstances - 10 years.
•Attempted Murder 15 years.
