Any smart person will tell you that when the house is flooded with water from the tap, the first step in dealing with the problem should be closing the tap before mopping the floors.
South African Police Service has finally gotten it right in the fight against cable theft. A scrapyard owner in Vanderbijlpark has been arrested after he was found in possession of R1,3 million worth of cables.
The owner failed to explain where he got the cable which then lead to his arrest. The technician from Eskom were called and they positively identified the cables as belonging to the power utility.
Arresting criminals who go out and steal cables is not enough and will not stop crime from happening. But arresting scrapyard owners will close the market on cables leading to a decrease in cable theft.
This a job well done by our men and women in blue. This should definitely be continued to every scrapyard in the country.
