Yesterday was a creation of bad history in South Africa. We woke up to hear that there were 22 children who were found dead in a local tavern that is based in East Landon in the eastern cape. According to the report, the cause of death is not revealed, but rumours say it was a lack of oxygen since there were too many people in the tavern. Of the people who passed away, the youngest was 13 years old and the eldest was 17 years old. After this was published, Mzanzi called for police to arrest the owner of the tavern and make him account for selling alcohol to children. Many people have been calling for him to be questioned and answer why there were kids in the tavern.
Finally, the Enyobeni tavern owner broke the silence. He was asked to explain what happened, and he said that he didn’t have a detailed report of what happened, but all he knew was that he received a call from security since he was not at the tavern. They called to tell him that the situation was out of control since people were forcing their way into the tavern and there was no space. The way people were, security couldn’t control. He went on to say the majority of people who were forcefully entering the tavern were kids who were not allowed to enter during the early hours, so they decided to force their way in late at night.
He said that someone among the crowd used a paper spray to dispense those people. They sprayed it in the air so that people could run away, but instead it just caused more chaos as people started fighting for their way out, and since they were too scared to breathe, He emphasized that he’s not the one who used the paper spray and he never told anyone to use it.
What’s your take on this? Do you think that the owner must be held accountable for the deaths of those 22 children? Mind you, those children are all underage and they are not allowed to enter a tavern. Leave your views below.
