Femicide is the killing of a woman or girl, in particular by a man and on account of her gender. The number of women killed by men is increasing. According to crime SA 57 people are murded in the country daily and majority of them are women and children.
Some women die in the hands of their partners (boyfriends/ husbands) and here are some of them.
Aluta Pasile confessed to killing Nosicelo Mtebeni (third year law student in Fort Hare) ostensibly because she cheated on him. The accused killed her and dismembered her body parts which were found in two bags in the street. During his appearance in court Pasile abandoned bail and legal representation. Pasile will appear in court on 28 September 2021.
The late Karabo was killed by her former boyfriend Sandile Mantsoe who stabbed her and tried to conceal the crime by burning her remains. Sandile was sentenced to 32 years in prison.
Aviwe Jam Jam
Twenty-six-year-old Aviwe Jam Jam's body was discovered on a field in Athlone on 29 July. She'd been beaten to death. The man accused of killing her was her abusive boyfriend and the father of her child.
On Valentine's Day 2013, Steenkamp was shot dead by her boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius, at his home in Pretoria. He stated that he thought Steenkamp was an intruder hiding in the bathroom. Oscar is still serving time in prison.
The former MUT student was shot by her boyfriend Thabani Mzolo who did not show any remorse in court. Thabani was sentenced to life in prison.
