The K9 unit together with Organised Crime Narcotics have secured the successful arrest of two men and a woman for contravention of the Customs and Excise Act, fraud and corruption.
According to the saps news report, yesterday 29 January 2022 police received intelligence information about business people who were diverting goods to avoid paying customs duties and Vat, the K9 unit together with Organised Crime Narcotics followed up on this information and went to search a storage facility in City Deep, Gauteng Province.
The search at the storage facility lead to a discovery of consignment of poultry meat weighing 27 000 kg loaded in a truck, police arrested two suspects for contravention of the Customs and Excise Act, fraud and corruption. One of the suspects attempted to convince to accept bribe, he called a woman who brought R800 000 cash which was meant for the bribe.
Police turned down the bribe and proceeded to also arrest the woman who brought the cash, further investigation lead to another company also suspected of evading tax, the premises was raided and imported poultry meat which had no legal papers was also recovered.
The suspects will soon make an appearance in court to face the said charges.
