This incident took place on Todd Street in the Verulam CBD this Monday. This is were an elderly woman and a 7 year old girl escaped injury after the vehicle they were seated in just busted into flames.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were contacted by pedestrians and other passing vehicles after they have noticed smoke blowing out of the vehicle. The RUSA members arrived at the seen around 15:27. It also turns out that there was a businessman who exstinguished the fire and went to the aid of the elderly woman and the girl.
According to the owner of the grey Fiat Palio, he parked his vehicle and proceeded to the bank while his wife & the child remained in the vehicle. They noticed smoke emanating from the dash board when the car suddenly burst into flames. The driver went on to explain that he had conducted repairs to the vehicle two weeks ago. The repairs were not related to any electrical components or the fuel system.
The cause of the fire was not established.
