The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow light warning for parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Friday. According to the SAWS, short-term rainfall and a thunderstorm are expected in KZN in the afternoon into the evening.

“Some of these thunderstorms have the potential to have little impact, especially in the Midlands, west and north of KZN. It is predicted that it will be accompanied by heavy rains, destructive strong winds, and excessive lightning," SAWS said.

Heavy rains are expected to cause local flooding in roads and low-lying areas. SAWS warns that excessive lightning can damage settlements and infrastructure.

Excessive lightning strikes can also cause local fires and injury to people and livestock, WSAWS warned. Motorists are advised to exercise caution on the roads as heavy rain and inclement weather can cause minor traffic accidents.

Partly cloudy weather and warm temperatures are expected in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo with scattered rainfall. According to SAWS, Western Cape residents can expect cloudy to very hot weather on the West Coast and Brid Valley.

Along the south coast it will be cloudy and will be cool with light rain which is expected to fall to the east of Georgi in the afternoon.

The winds along the coast will be mild and variable in the morning along the southwest coast, otherwise fresh to strong winds from the south but moderate to fresh from the west to the southwest along the south coast.

Night will be southeast of Cape Columbine, SAWS reported.
