Hlongwa looking at lawful arrest

After almost 10 years after a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report shed light to the corruption of the possession of more than R1 billion at the Gauteng health department, law enforcement agencies are finally getting ready to visit former health MEC Brian Hlongwa and his wife Joeline. It is alleged that the agencies are also going after Hlongwa’s friend and benefactor Richard Payne, who is alleged to have fled to Mauritius. It is also alleged that the officers have already met with Interpol and extradition processes are under way. City Press reports.

Brian Hlongwa faces the law for looting R1.2bn almost a decade ago.Docket was handed over to the prosecution team on May 7 2021. Matter is anticipated to be placed on the court roll by end-June. Prosecution team is in the process of acquiring a racketeering certificate. The report was handed over to former President Jacob Zuma back in March 2017 but was only made public after Section27 obtained it through a Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) request.
