Red Ants pounce on illegal occupiers

The notorious and feared Red Ants descended on Touwsranten were they demolished at least 219 illegal structures.

They were following an eviction order and many families were left homeless.

The George municipality stated that the property is an environmentally sensitive area that falls within the SANParks buffer area.

Those who had occupied the land had done so illegally as it was not earmarked for future housing developments.

The Red Ants demolished the illegal structures as the occupants had failed to leave the place after being given 90 days to do so.

George munipality divulged that they would assist the vulnerable as it was their mandate to help them.

Some space has already been identified where they are set to give land to those affected.

As per the court order, the unlawful occupiers have been given an opportunity to either check their registration on the housing database, or to register, should they qualify.

Many South Africans have complained about not being given land to build their houses.
