Police confirm alleged South African criminals killed after shootout in Botswana

The Rosettenville shootout was the leading story for most of the week. The shootout highlighted the growth of cross border crimes in the SADC region.

But there was also a cash in transit shoot out between Botswana police assistance well as robbers.

Nine robbers were killed during the shootout. 

Botswana police have confirmed that among the dead were Motswana nationals as well as South Africans. 

A statement by Botswana Police Services spokesperson Assistant Commisioner Dipheko Motube disclosed the information through a media statement.

"Nine men aged between 20 and 35 of Botswana and South African origin died in an exchange of fire with members of the Botswana Police Service this morning (23/02/2022) at Phase 2 location in Gaborone.

"This follows an incident in which 11 armed men attacked and robbed Security Systems Cash-in-transit motor vehicle of over P986 000-00 at the Main Mall this morning," he said. 

Cash in transit heists are now on the increase in Botswana.
