KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa - People on social media have made shocking claims about the devastation in eThekwini after heavy rains in KZN put the province on high alert.

Last year's floods in KZN killed at least 448 people and left dozens more missing. South Africa's Weather Service has issued a Red Level 10 warning for disruptive rain in Durban and other parts of KwaZulu-Natal, which could cause even more damage to the region's deteriorating infrastructure.

After a white woman named Sarah Michaelson said that black people are being punished for looting last year, this is the latest in a long line of racist statements. These floods affected tens of thousands of people, and they didn't just affect black people.

On social media, she has also made a number of shocking statements that enraged people. From 9 to 18 July 2021, South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces were rocked by a wave of civil unrest sparked by the imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma for contempt of court, which sparked riots.

Anti-Zuma protests led to wider rioting and looting, which was fueled by job losses and economic imbalances exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic policies, as well as people who were not in support of Zuma.

After beginning in KwaZulu-Natal on July 9 and spreading to Gauteng by the evening of July 11, this outbreak of violence was the most heinous South Africa had seen since the end of Apartheid. In response to a threat to make the comment viral, the woman said, "Go ahead, you will only make HIV viral." Which way do you lean in this situation? Please add your thoughts in the space provided.
