A driver reportedly sustained no injuries while seven of his passengers lost their lives when the taxi overturned between Queenstown and Takarstad , on the R61 in Eastern Cape .
The heartbreaking accident took place on Friday evening , where eight people sustained injuries .The spokesperson for the Road Traffic Management Corporation Simon Zwane informed that the taxi overturned when the taxi driver was trying to overcome other vehicles.
He allegedly left the tar road and went on the gravelled shoulder as part of his efforts to do the overtaking . When he tried to return to the tar road , he lost control and the taxi overturned .
Three people reportedly died on the spot , while four died in hospital . Mr Zwane said that the driver would possibly face many counts of culpable homicide for the tragic accident .More investigations will be conducted by the relevant authorities .
