A dad decide decided to take his stepson for swimming but it ended in a horror show.
The festive season did not start well for residents of the Hessequa region. They were shocked on Sunday afternoon with the drowning of a five-year-old toddler and his stepfather after they went swimming in the river earlier in the afternoon.
At 18:00 in the afternoon, a family member became concerned because the two had not yet returned and went to the jetty, where he came across their clothes on the river bank.
He sounded alarm when he saw no sign of the two. Riversdale police, police divers and other role players were notified to launch the search for them.
The family member who first went to look for them also sailed into the river in a canoe to help search. By 20:15, Arendse's body was found among reeds, not far from the jetty.
However, there was no sign of Coller. The search was canceled later that evening until the next morning.
According to Sergeant Christiaan Jansen, Riversdale Police's communications officer, Coller's body was found around 10:30 Monday morning.
