Violence erupted in Johannesburg City Centre and taxis were burnt and some were left damaged. The tragedy occurred and four minibus taxis were set alight while other six taxis were left damaged close to the Intersection of Commissioner street in Johannesburg.
People suspect that the incident occurred due to tension between taxi drivers from Wits African Taxi Association and the Nancefield Dube West Association in the crowded and busy City of Johannesburg. It was reported that only one person got damaged.
Mamabolo spoke and said that both the associations had sabotaged the hard work that the transport department and the taxi industry have worked so hard for to ensure the is stabilized in the province.
"We hold leaders responsible for this. They should really be ashamed of themselves that they've put the industry that is trying to rebuild and reorganize itself, that really undermines completely the effort that we have put in place".
The MEC declared that all the people that took part in this corrupt act should be arrested and taken into custody.
"They must get to the bottom of this matter. We can't have flames in our streets in the most critical and commercial sites".
