During The Shoot-out, See Who Was Injured Between Cops And The Two Suspects. See More On This

During the shoot-out, the victim was injured and rushed to the hospital. Polokwane police detained two suspects and rescued a regional bank manager who was allegedly kidnapped and held for ransom while jogging over the weekend.

Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the 56-year-old was abducted while jogging near his home in Welgelegen on the outskirts of the city at around 9 a.m. on Saturday. According to Mojapelo, the abductors called the victim's family and wanted a large sum of money in exchange for his safe release.

When the incident was reported to the police, detectives from the provincial investigation unit, criminal intelligence and organised crime unit, tactical response team, and hostage negotiators began investigating and gathering information in order to save the victim.

The ransom money was delivered to the agreed-upon location. The culprits arrived in two BMW vehicles, white and black in colour, and picked up the money before fleeing with the victim still inside one of their vehicles.

According to Mojapelo, a high-speed car chase began, with one of the BMWs carrying the abducted victim losing control, swerving into bushes and coming to a halt.

After they were shot, two suspects were apprehended. Others were able to escape in the white BMW vehicle. During the shootout, the victim was injured and rushed to the hospital, where he is in stable condition. The money was found, and the second BMW was taken away.

The two suspects, aged 25 and 28, will appear in the Polokwane magistrate's court on Monday on charges of abduction, extortion, and attempted murder. They were in hospital under police guard. Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe, the provincial police commissioner, praised the squad for a well-coordinated operation that resulted in the arrest.
