Kidnapping

The son of a kidnapped Mozambican businessman has been rescued in Gauteng.

Jahyr Abdula, the son of a prominent Mozambican businessman who was kidnapped a month ago in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, was rescued on Sunday, according to the SA Police Service.

"We congratulate everyone involved on the safe return of Mr Abdula and his friend. We are stepping up our efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects. We will not stop until we have all suspects in police custody "General Khehla Sitole, national commissioner, stated.

Abdula, the son of businessman Salimo Abdula, and four friends were kidnapped on October 15.

On Friday, he was rescued in Heidelberg, south-east of Johannesburg.

"The search for Mr Abdula continued but ended on Friday, November 26, 2021, when a multidisciplinary team comprised of members of SAPS Crime Intelligence, the DPCI, Special Task Force, SAPS Airwing, SAPS Johannesburg flying squad, and security companies successfully pounced on an identified address and rescued the traumatised and malnourished victim," Sitole said.

One of the alleged kidnappers has been apprehended, and a manhunt for the remaining kidnappers is still ongoing.

According to a statement from the South African Police Service, his parents, Salimo and Maria Abdula, thanked everyone involved in the rescue of their son.

"We thank Allah Almighty for answering our prayers. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the South African Police Service, all private security companies involved, and the Mozambican government. Our family is relieved that justice is being served. "We are looking forward to healing and will appreciate some privacy," said the family.

According to the online news outlet Club of Mozambique, Abdula and four of his friends were abducted while traveling to Johannesburg to attend a wedding. Only Abdula, 28, remained in captivity after his friends were released.
