The economic freedom fighters party was ridiculed for the longest time after it announced that it had big plans for the upcoming elections. According to the leader of the party Julius Malema, if they are to win the municipality of Johannesburg they are likely to build RDP houses in Sandton.
This will be one of the first times in history that RDP houses are built in such a prominent area. People thought it was a bad idea but there are reasons to believe that it could be a very good idea from Julius Malema.
One of the first reasons why it could be a good idea to build these houses in Sandton is the fact that it will cancel the gap between the rich and the poor. This will mean that the poor will get the same service delivery as the rich people of Sandton. Service delivery has been a very big problem in informal settlements especially where they build these RDP houses.
Another reason that could make this idea work is the fact that the black people who need to work at Sandton will now have very good places to live. The reason why Alexandra was created was because South Africans had to come all the way from rural areas to come to seek opportunities at Sandton. Now, this opportunity will offer them opportunities around where they live.
The last reason is that this whole move will prove that the government does not treat rich people any better than it does poor people. For many years we have seen how the rich people from Sandton, which includes the very same politicians, get certain perks for living there that people in rural areas don't. The government actually allowing this to happen will prove that it does care about the poor as much as it cares about the rich.
What is your take on the matter at hand? Do you think that it would be a good idea to build houses in Sandton or will it be a bad idea?
