The illegal mining in South Africa, is far from being over. The recent incidents that sparked strikes and attacks on illegal miners in most parts of Gauteng, has spread awareness across the country, about how dangerous the Zama Zamas are. Reality is that these Zama Zamas will forever be in South Africa, despite arrests or attempts to kill or get injured by the communities, due to incompetent of the SAPS and their lack of taking actions immediately, that waiting for something to happen.
All the girls that were raped by the Zama Zamas, could have been saved, if the police new how to do their job. All illegal mine shafts could have been closed a long time ago, however no attempts and it also shows that there are people who are exploiting the Zama Zamas. The masterminds behind such criminal syndicates should be brought to book. If the real masterminds are not arrested, nothing will change. All the Zama Zamas who were arrested will soon be replaced with the new ones, and we are already witnessing it. This is a challenge for South Africans, as we are being taken back and there is no progress in fighting illegal mining.
“Five days after a mob raided Soul City informal settlement in search of zama zamas, illegal miners are back at it.”
South Africans have mixed emotions over the issue that illegal miners have returned to business as if nothing has happened in the past few days. They have calculated wrong, as they thought that the police would no longer attend such cases and shift their focus away from the illegal mining issue. The citizens are still angry and seeking justice for girls that have been raped, and anyone who has been victimized by the Zama Zamas across the country.
