Pictures on social media show residents of Kroonstad in Free State Province helping themselves out from a fallen fuel tanker as the price of petrol goes up. It was reported that, the Fuel truck overturned at Road R76 in Kroonstad, Free State province. People in the area were seen helping themselves with fuel in buckets and jags. Many people have been complaining that they may not be able to afford the high cost of fuel due to the recent increment. They are also complaining about load shedding, saying that the timing is wrong. But this is a really dangerous situation because it can cost explosion and many lives would be lost. This goes a long way to show how poverty can push people into doing the unthinkable. Many people are urging the government to consider the people before increasing fuel prices because a higher percentage of the youths are currently unemployed and Jobless. They may find it difficult to adjust with the increasing fuel prices.
A South African youth said today amidst the fuel prices crisis, “One day will tell our kids how we sat and did absolutely nothing when SA was crumbling down, breaking and getting destroyed by your so-called leaders that emerged from apartheid as millionaires. We (SA citizens) are responsible for the current state”. The complaints are much leading to hashtags such as, #FuelPrices, #FuelPriceHike. Some people are even planning to protest against this increment, saying that it will certainly affect the prices of Transportation.
