All motorist are urged to plan their trips as delays are expected following a paraffin crash on highway N2 just after midnight. A truck carrying more than 40,000 liters of paraffin overturned on the N2 heading south near Queen Nandi Drive, according to Durban Metro Police spokesman Parbhoo Sewpersad.

The highway is closed to traffic. However, at 8am Tuesday, only the fast lane was closed as workers were still doing the cleaning. Sewpersad said although the toll road is now open, there have been long delays on all major routes, including motorway M19, Jalan First Ruth M4, Jalan Inanda, M41 and R102.

On a typical day, N2 traffic runs smoothly because the road is wide and there are no potholes. However, when there is an accident or something else, the traffic starts to reverse and therefore provides a nightmare experience for the driver.

The call to authorities came after a single collision involving a motor vehicle. Access to all traffic was denied and first aid teams arrived on the scene at 6:30am. Firefighters, paramedics and police were among those who responded to the call.

When they got to the location on N2 near Queen Nandi Drive, they saw everything was wrong. Beside him was a truck blocking all lanes in both directions.

Fortunately after the explosion, the truck driver and the motorbike driver managed to escape with their lives. Reports have it that they are both safe and in intensive care after obtaining terrible injuries.

Please share this article and try contacting anyone you know who drove out or used the N2 road from last night till this morning, they might be in danger or stranded.

Don't forget to make your comment and drop a prayer for the injured.
