The MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs at Mpumalanga , Mandla Msibi , spent a night behind bars pending his bail application in the Nelspruit Magistrates Court on Today.
National prosecution Authority (NPA) charged Msibi with murder and attempted murder when he appeared at the same court on Monday afternoon.
Msibi’s arrest is coming after a shooting incident that happened near Coyote’s Shisa Nyama a popular drinking spot in Mbombela , Mpumalanga .
It is alleged that the shooting incident was in relation to ANC factional battles about a list conference that was held at Nutting House Lodge outside Mbombela.
People who are suspected were reported to be driving in a blue bakkie , they allegedly opened fire on a VW Polo.
It is reported that Mpumalanga premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has released Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs MEC Mandla Msibi from his position in the provincial executive, with immediate effect.
Premier said whilst she release MEC Msibi from his role and responsibilities, she wish to emphasize and accordingly observe the two basic pillars of our jurisprudence: the right to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise, and the right to equality before the law.
“Mandla Msibi is a comrade of mine, whom I have known and worked with over many years. I hold him in very high regard. and shall continue to so do until proven otherwise” Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane said .
