As we slowly approach the Christmas season, vehicle accidents become more and more common. So it would be wise to take safety precautions to keep yourself safe. Unfortunately in this next case that occured yesterday safety precautions were neglected and it lead to serious injuries for one young child. All the details are down below.
The tragic accident :
Yesterday a grade four pupil was violently thrown out of a vehicle during a collision. The three vehicle collision involved a Hyundai H100, a Renault Kwid and a Ford Ranger that collided. However at this moment we have no information on which vehicle caused the accident. During the collision the child was ejected from the Kwid and landed under the Hyundai.
RUSA (Reaction Unit South Africa) rapidly responded to the scene where they were able to locate and try to treat the child. It was discovered that the child had a serious head injury and he was taken to hospital immediately. The accident that occured in the Verulam Central Business District should serve as a warning as we enter the Christmas season. Here's what we should know about the accident.
Important to know :
As the child was ejected from the vehicle we can only assume that he was not wearing his seatbelt, something illegal when inside a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle should have ensured that the child was properly strapped in, there is a good chance his injuries could have been avoided if he was. I urge everyone reading this to wear a seatbelt when travelling in a vehicle as it can save your life. Remember to observe all safety precautions as we make our way into the Christmas season.
