A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a double murder that occurred at about 03:55 on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

The 30-year-old man is accused of going to his ex-house girlfriend's in the early hours of the morning and stabbing her to death before hitting her son with a hammer on the head. The suspect claimed he mistook the son for the ex-current girlfriend's new lover. Following that, the suspect fled the scene. Paramedics arrived on the scene and pronounced both the 34-year-old mother and her 14-year-old son dead.
Constable Masilo Moreki, the investigating officer, ensured that no stone was left unturned with the help of community members. He was notified of the suspect's location and was able to apprehend him.
On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, the 30-year-old suspect will face the Viljoenskroon Magistrate's Court on a murder accusation.
