A plea for assistance was made by leaders in Alexandra to the Department of Home Affairs to help affected residents with applying for identity documents and children's birth certificates . This followed a fire that saw more than 200 homes being destroyed .
In accordance with the report, a certain shack caught fire after electricity had been restored. It did not take long for fire to spread quickly and destroy other homes. The blaze was reported to have caused extensive damages ,hence the need for assistance. The good news however is that there were no fatalities that were recorded according to the emergency services.
In accordance with the report, this is the second informal settlement within a short period to be catch fire during the current cold spell . The residents in Kwa Mai Mai experienced the same fate as hundreds of homes got destroyed by fire.
