These power cuts are a result of a shortage in the generation of electricity. The same cuts and times will apply on Saturday and Sunday. There is 3405MW of planned maintenance that is not currently generated. Then there is 15534MW of unplanned shortage due to unexpected breakdowns.
Eskom pleads with South Africans to help in saving the national power grid by using electricity sparingly and switching off unused and unnecessary appliances. Lights and heaters in unused rooms are encouraged to be off as well as geysers.
