Auntie and her nephew died a painful death. Here's what happened to them

According to Mpumalanga police, a Standerton woman and her 12-year-old nephew perished after falling into a grain silo. Police officers announced the death on Sunday.

The event took place on Friday night. According to the investigation, the youngster accidentally ended up inside the grain silo at Groenvlei farm near Standerton on that terrible day. When Jackie Rautenbach, his aunt, attempted to bring him out later, she too fell inside, according to Brig. Selvy Mohlala.

"The woman's husband is alleged to have heard cries for help from a few meters away and ran to the scene, but it was tragically too late to save their lives." Sadly, the two were pronounced dead when the paramedics arrived, Mohlala continued. Although an inquest docket has now been established, police noted that no wrongdoing was suspected. Then Jackie and Kernel Rautenbach, the deceased couple, were recognized. At Laerskool Standerton, Kernels was a student. His aunt and he were remembered by the school on their Facebook page.

"Our messages are sparse as our hearts hurt." In the short time you have been with us on Earth, Kernels Rautenbach, you have affected many people's lives. You'll be known as the handsome guy with the most wonderful heart forever. You will be missed by our Stannies. Let kernels rest in peace. To the Rautenbach family, our sincere sympathies and sorrow.

The school issued the following statement regarding Jackie: "Our Stannies send our deepest sympathies to the Rautenbach family on the demise of Jackie Rautenbach." Jackie was the mother of one of our fifth-grade students. Jackie, rest in peace. You showed such bravery, Lt-Gen Semakaleng. Daphney Manamela, the commissioner of the Mpumalanga police, expressed her sorrow over the occurrence.
