A 39-year-old on-duty lawyer was detained this morning after being detected in possession of drugs apparently intended for an accused he was representing in Bellville Regional Court.
Colonel Andrè Traut, a police spokesperson, says the court orderly was on duty at the Bellville Regional Court when he observed the lawyer carrying a green plastic bag.
He claims that when he walked out of the court, a court orderly followed him and performed a search, discovering 200 mandrax tablets and tik with a combined street value of R9600-00 in the green plastic bag he was carrying.
A 39-year-old lawyer has lost his employment due to drug usage; all he has worked for has been gone; drug use is one of the most serious crimes in South Africa; a person can spend years in prison for such an offense.
