Ladysmith Central Business District in a bad state following heavy rains

Kwa-Zulu Natal has not been lucky in the past months as it has had some of its districts hit by natural disasters in the form of heavy rains . A couple of days ago , the Premier of Kwa-Zulu Natal even called for some of the districts to be declared National State of Disaster because of the December rains .

Today , it emerged that Ladysmith CBD was flooded and it was hard for people to move to certain areas .In accordance with the report by Independent On Line News , there were hundreds of people who were temporarily accommodated at the indoor sports centre following their evacuation from their homes .The Central Business District was reported to have been covered with flood waters .

In the report , it was reported that the Klip River contributed to the flooding of certain areas of the Alfred Duma Local Minicipality . This was due to the fact that the banks of the Klip River had burst .

It s concerning that the wet weather conditions are expected to continue in the next couple of days .The country's weather services forecast that the conditions would be cloudy for up to three days for Ladysmith .

On Monday , rescue teams had to be dispatched to the affected areas to help evacuate people living in the CBD . The CBD was in a mess as members of the public failed to do their everyday business.Jabulani Mkhonza , who is the spokesperson for the Municipality revealed that they had began the process of trying to pump out the water from the homes of people .

He also said that they were evacuating members of the community to safer places .The impact of the floods is still being assessed according to the Municipality's spokesperson .There are 70 residents who have reportedly been evacuated .
