Rape Obscene

He demanded that I undress, and I refused" - a 16-year-old student describes how a man cut off her hand with a machete after she refused to be raped.

A 16-year old student of two senior students in Bududa District, Uganda, recounted how a wanderer, who cut off her hand after she resisted his attempt to rape her, attacked her.

During its session at the Bubulo Magistrate's Court in Manafwa County on Wednesday 7 April, Evelyn Namasopo told Mbale Chief Magistrates M. James Mawanda that 25-year-old suspect Derrick Kuloba attacked her in the forest to find her sick mother's beds and food that was admitted to her.

He was trying to cut my head but I tried to watch it with my right hand, she told the court at the hearing of a case accusing Kuloba of attempted murder. "He (Kuloba) started ordering me to undress, and when I refused he pulled out a machete and started cutting me.

Evelyn said she had an alarm to seek help, but she said in vain that she still has a lot of pain

The victim charged the police and Mbale Court with frustration because of the release of Kuloba a few days after his arrest under unclear conditions.

"I need this court's justice because I'm disabled now. I can't do activities like I did before, every day. She explained, I can't even write."

Prosecutor Kuloba, a nabooti village in Bududa District's Nakatsi sub-county, was told on 4 July 2020 that Kuloba was macheting the victim and launching a botched rape against him, and attacking him before shaving her right hand.

The girl was also injured in other parts of the body.

Three witnesses were presented by prosecution: the victim, her cousin and her uncle.

The girl also asked Kuloba to face a severe punishment in her testimony.

The case was postponed until 15 April 2021, when further witnesses are expected to be brought to court.

Ms. Juliet Khainza, her mom said: "We had waited till this case began, but in vain.

I want justice for my daughter."

Ms. Chainza requested the suspect to pay her daughter's medical bills and said that her family could afford her medication nolonger pending judgment.

Ms. Khainza asked the suspect to pay medical bills to her, while her family has been financially disabled, until the judgment was reached.
