Theft robbery

Landlord left sh0cked after police raid his house and recover 100 stolen phones

Cellphones are now big business for thieves nowadays. That is because phones are in demand.

After an alarm went off at business premises in Amalinda Main Road, Red Alert security firm’s control centre dispatched a response team and discovered there had been an armed robbery, with cash and cellphones stolen.

One of the stolen phones had a tracker unit, and the Red Alert officers, together with the tracking company, followed the trail to Mdanstane.

Red Alert spokesperson Brett Harvey said: “Our tactical teams intervened and apprehended four suspects. One hundred cellphones were recovered with other stolen items.

“Two vehicles that were used in numerous armed robberies, a Toyota Corolla and an Opel Corsa, were recovered, as well as a firearm that was taken from one of the suspects.

“The suspects were arrested and handed over to the SAPS, vehicles were impounded and cases opened,” said Harvey.

One of the suspects allegedly rented a flat at the house they were arrested at.

The shocked landlord, who wanted to remain anonymous, said one of the men had moved in last year.

The house was surrounded by police and private security vehicles, with a crime scene tape cordoning off the area.
