Palesa Madiba's killer, Dumisani Mkhwanazi has been sentenced by the Johannesburg High Court to 31 years imprisomement.
Palesa Madiba was killed in August 2013.
The sentence was broken down; 20 years for murder, 3 years for theft of a cellphone, 8 years for defeating the ends of justice, 10 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm, and two years for the possession of ammunition.
But because some of the sentences will run concurrently, they amount to 31 years effectively.
Palesa Madiba went missing after she had slept over at her friend's place, Tshidi Mkhwanazi, who happens to be the niece of Dumisani Mkhwanazi.
The body of decomposed Palesa was discovered in December 2015 after a neighbor noticed a protruding arm from a shallow grave behind Tshidi's home.
The murder drew considerable attention and widespread publicity.
Tshidi was found guilty of Palesa's murder on the 5th of December.
After a long legal wrangle and countless visits to the court, Palesa's family can now breathe a sigh of relief.
