Those who want their cars to be washed for free in Richmond must be willing to do so in an exchange for a vote for ANC. Many who wish to have their cars washed are given the warning to remove all their valuables in the car as these people are thieves. These appeals are not clear to whom they are directed too. From the look of things, residents in the proposed area do not own cars Midlands residents do not even have jobs how can they possibly own cars. According to the census, the population of Richmond is close to 80 000 and most of these are children under the age of 15 making 40% of the population.
The message was given on Wednesday and many did not take it well, they said that all they want in their region is basic services with clean water. A resident told the media that all she want is water to cook, bathe, and wash her laundry. Lungile stays at Nhlazuka one of the wards of Richmond. Ndlovu said for four years she has never had proper water. She went on to say the ANC has failed the community so bad, they can wash cars for them for free but she will not vote for them. A tanker was once put in their access but for some reason, the water supply was stopped and no one explained the reason why.
Now Ndlovu depends on tractors whom she pays to get water for her. Richmond is known for its deadly wars during the 1980s and 1990s and the municipality is governed by the ANC and the ward councilor is Samora Ndlovu. Samora was deployed into the town last year in a bid to rescue it from collapsing when it went under administration. The municipality is being investigated for overspending R 30 million for the installation of an electricity program that was intended to send electricity into many homes in the city. Ndlovu has struggled during his team and has opted to wash cars for free on Friday in an attempt to earn votes. Many people are angry as a result.
