Top ANC Leader allegedly stabs bouncer to death over R50 entry fee

An ANC councillor from Victor Khanye Local Municipality has been arrested after allegedly stabbing two bouncers outside a club in Dembas.

The bouncers working at the Kwakhehla Tavern ask all their customers to pay a R50 entry fee, no matter who they are.

The councillor allegedly became enraged when he was turned away for refusing to pay up.

He started shouting, “You know who I am? You know who I am?”

He is then alleged to have stabbed the bouncer. When another bouncer came to the first man’s aid, he too was stabbed.

The deceased, a Zimbabwean national, was identified as Tichaona Madumbe. A worker at the establishment said when they heard noises outside they went to see what was going on.

“We found the councillor arguing and demanding that as a councillor he should be allowed to enter without paying,” she said.

She said the bouncers were restraining him and he suddenly took out a knife and allegedly stabbed Madumbe, who is known to his friends as Tich.

“Tich immediately fell down. He was lying on the ground with blood flowing from him. Katlego Masina rushed to help his colleague and he too was stabbed,” she said.

Madumbe died at the scene. Masina is fighting for his life in hospital.

Delmas Ward 4 resident Bheka Nkosi said ANC members had previously protested against the election of the councillor as a public servant because of his history of violent behaviour.

“That councillor believes he has become untouchable and cannot pay R50,” said Nkosi.

Delmas SAPS spokesperson Captain Ray Hartley confirmed the incident and said the councillor was arrested on Sunday night and charged with murder and attempted murder.

“He appeared briefly in court and his case was postponed to 26 January for formal bail application. He remained in custody,” Hartley said.
