WATCH | Ramaphosa 'Heartbroken' After Tavern Tragedy

President Cyril Ramaphosa who was present at the mass funeral that was held at the Scenery Sports Field, has shared that the ordeal that claimed the lives of 21 individuals, with the most being underage teenagers left him heartbroken.

In a heartfelt speech that he delivered, President Cyril Ramaphosa also asked South Africans to refrain from judging the victims of the incident. He further sent out his condolences to the families.

He also touched on the need to stop underage drinking, which is a major problem in the country that South Africa is facing.

At the mass funeral, only 2 individuals were going to be buried, while the other 19 families opted for private burials that will take place on later dates of their choice.

The president has asked for the youth to focus on their lives and avoid underage drinking, as well as for parents to ensure the safety of their children.
