Shoppers get gunned down at mall

On Monday the 11th of October 2021 the nation received some terrifying news of what happened in the Gauteng province. Fear among residents heightened as the security systems which are in place continues to be breached daily. Shopping malls are places which many assume to be safe as there are security guards roaming around, CCTV cameras installed and boom gates. When one sees such systems, they are made to think that they will be safe when they are in the shopping center. It seems like there are some criminals who see these measures as child’s play.

According to a tweet that was shared by Yusuf Abramjee, all is not looking well in this country. Acts of terror happened in broad daylight and many could not handle the traumatizing experience. There was a report of a shooting that took place at Centurion Mall.

A video was shared by one user which showed scenes moments after the incident. Most of the faces in this video appeared to be traumatized. This was after some of the bullets landed on innocent shoppers. The exact number of casualties during this incident has not been shared to this publication and details regarding this incident still sketchy. One would be left questioning if the army should be deployed at malls as the situation is slowly getting of hand.

Some believe that these criminals might be working hand in glove with some dirty cops. The police should have handled the situation long time ago.

Organised crime is the talk of the day. From the look of things at the moment, organised crime will forever defeat the security cluster as long we have under paid security staff.

Some form of drastic intervention is required urgently. Bheki Cele should step up efforts in preventing crime and ensure the safety of residents. You can click this link to watch the video of the incident.
