The City Of Johannesburg Sends A Message For Everyone Who Applied For RDP houses.

The allocation of RDP houses is one of the governments roles in South Africa. The government has to ensure that people have proper housing with proper sanitation and service delivery.

Each year people who qualify for RDP houses apply for one in the hopes that they will be allocated a house one day. The City of Johannesburg sent a message to the people of Johannesburg who have applied for RDPs after a social media post has been circulating on social media stating that there will be a housing allocation tomorrow. City of Joburg had this to say " A message from MMC for Housing

Fake News: Housing not hosting an RDP Housing Allocation tomorrow

The City’s Housing Department has noted a hoax poster on social media, which invites residents to

an allocations event tomorrow, 29 March 2022.

The department has not planned any allocation ceremony at 222 Smith Street in Braamfontein.

The post doing rounds on social media reads as follows: “City of Johannesburg hereby gives notice to people whom applied for RDP house in the year 1996/2020 an allocation of 1800 houses in different areas will take place.”

This post is intended to disrupt effective service delivery in the City and in particular the Department

of Housing by perpetrators.

These perpetrators have the intention to undermine processes and procedures that the department has in place to address social housing challenges in Joburg.

The department will not invite qualifying beneficiaries to Braamfontein offices for the handover of units. It will, however, communicate directly with beneficiaries on when and where the ceremony will take place.

Residents are urged to always remain vigilant, scrutinise all the information they receive and follow only the official social media platforms of the City.

Any communication about the department will come out through the City’s official website and official social media platforms.

The department calls on all community members to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the City’s Group Forensic Investigating Services (GFIS) at:Sappi Building, 48 Ameshoff Street, 6th floor in Braamfontein or call the fraud hotline number on 0800002587 or email: [email protected] Confidentiality is guaranteed.
