Four minibus taxis were set alight in the Johannesburg CBD on Saturday morning, in what is believed to be another outbreak of taxi violence.
Commissioner Street had been closed according to Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar who was on the scene investigating the issue.
The sealed street was manned by heavy police presence and paramedics as well as crime prevention intelligence units that were monitoring the situation.
According to street rumors, this war has been going on for years now. They are fighting for territory in Soweto. WATA and NANDUWA are the taxi association, they are fighting for the Makhetha and Dube route.
The taxi violence which is now going out of control will soon force some metro to completely ban them from operating just like the Cape Town Transport MEC did in July when the violence escalate in some parts of the town.
