Eskom released a statement that loadshedding will be implemented at 14:00pm until midnight tonight as a result of the ongoing unlawful strike. Loadshedding will then be implemented again at 5:00am until midnight on Friday.
Eskom has also announced today that stage 4 will be implemented from 00:00-05:00am on Friday, from then onwards it will be stage 6. Stage 4 can also be expected over the weekend too.
Eskom says it is continuing to examine the situation and it is closely monitoring the system. It says that it will communicate any changes that are necessary.
Eskom says the high number of staff absenteeism and intimidation in some of the power stations is still consistent. Due to this, it’s been a challenge to have routine maintenance and acquire other operational requirements.
Eskom says due to the unlawful and unprotected strike which has resulted in its power plants being disrupted, it has been a challenge for it to return some generators to service.
Eakom therefore says that the public should know that loadshedding is implemented only as a last resort in order for the national grid to be protected.
