Man Arrested After Being Found With This Deadly Stolen Antiques

Man arrested after being found with stolen antiques

He successfully pulled off a one-man heist at a museum, making away with antiques worth more than R600,000.

But the man didn’t have buyers lined up for his loot. So he went around looking for anyone to buy the antiques dating back to the 1800s.

The watches, binoculars used by Anglo-Boer War soldiers, antique knives, medals and Krugerrands were stolen from the Bloemfontein museum last weekend.

As days went by without getting a buyer, the 36-year-old man started boasting about “his” Krugerrand gold coins to his friends, a mistake which cost him his freedom.

The friends tipped off the police, who pounced on the man in the early hours of Friday morning.

The suspect was found in a meter taxi with the stolen goods.

Police say the man couldn’t explain where he got the antiques and he was arrested.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele confirmed the man’s arrest.

“The suspect could not give police a clear explanation of where he found the valuable antiques and he was immediately arrested and will be charged with possession of suspected stolen goods,” Makhele told reporters.

He is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
