The community of Atlantis were left very upset following the arrest of an 80 year old granny. They are calling for the suspension of the police officers who arrested her.
The 80 year old lady, Wilhelmina Jacobs has been arrested for allowing a dog fight at her home. However she says that she doesn't own any dogs.
According to a police spokesperson, FC Van Wyk, the 80 year old lady and two men were arrested in Atlantis at 11 pm on Saturday, the lady was released with a warning and had to report to the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Monday. The two men, aged 44 and 22 also appeared in court.
The daughter of the lady was upset over how the situation was handled and how police treated them.
Cape of Good Hope SPCA Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse and Inspector Mark Syce arrived at the house to see a dog fight taking place. The badly injured dogs were taken to a veterinarian. A suspect ran away but was trace and arrested as he was the organiser of the dog fight. The home owner, 80 year old Wilhelmina and another man were arrested for obstructing.
The behaviour of the police has been condemned and the South African human rights commission is looking into the matter.
