Woman, 20, two alleged hitmen in court for killing her parents, two siblings

On Monday, the 20-year-old woman who apparently confessed to planning the deaths of her parents and two brothers appeared before a judge for the first time in her life. She was accompanied by two of her suspected hitmen, Kagiso Mokone, 23, and Tumelo Mokone, both 23, in the attack on Onthatile Sebati. On Tuesday, they appeared for a limited period of time at the Brits Magistrate's Court. They are being held on five counts of murder in addition to other charges.iStock

Sebati and the Mokones have chosen not to enter a plea in the court of law. They were remanded in jail, and it is believed that they will file a formal bail application soon after. The Mokones were detained separately on Friday and Saturday, according to Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda Funani, a spokesman for the North West police. A man from Brits in the North West was detained, while another from Soshanguve, just outside of Pretoria, was apprehended by the authorities.

After Sebati confessed to the North West police last week that she had paid the Mokones to kill her parents, her 18-year-old pregnant sister, and her six-year-old brother, the two were apprehended and charged with murder. Their house in Mmakau village, Brits, was attacked and destroyed on December 6, 2016, killing the victims. Sebati was 16 at the time, and the Mokones were both 19 at the time.See the source image

Funani said that Sebati went to the Mmakau police station and confessed to the murders of her parents and three siblings. The next day, on the 6th of December, Sebati walked outdoors to dispose of the water she had been using to wash dishes. While she was outdoors, she heard gunshots coming from within the home and returned inside to check. 'According to Funani, the suspects shot her in the thigh before fleeing the scene in the family's Chrysler Voyager,' he added.See the source image

Sebati then contacted her neighbors, who in turn notified the authorities about the deaths of her parents and brothers and sisters. According to Funani, "Police discovered [the] dead corpses of a 42-year-old father who was a police officer, his wife, 40, his 18-year-old pregnant daughter, and their six-year-old son, all of whom were lying in a pool of blood." Sebati and the Mokones are scheduled to appear in court again on December 30th.
