People had to be evacuated on Monday from flooded areas in Ladysmith CBD as it was in a state of disaster after some floods hit this part of Kwa-Zulu Natal .It was reported that hundreds of people had to be accommodated at the CBD's indoor sports centre following their evacuation from their original homes because of the floods.
There was evacuation of residents on Monday by the Rescue Teams that came from Pietermaritzburg . It was reported that there were uses of rubber boats to help evacuate the affected members of the community .The people who got assisted were those whose homes were located in the Ladysmith CBD .
There are 70 people who were reportedly evacuated in Ladysmith fro the areas that are flooded .This was made known by the Kwa-Zulu Natal MEC for COGTA , Mr Sipho Hlomuka .Mr Hlomuka also confirmed the that the disaster management teams were deployed to the ares in order to assist the affected members of the public .Al-Imdaad Foundation , which is a non-profit organisation revealed that the road in the CBD was water logged . It was revealed that those people from the low-lying areas were rescued and got evacuated .
ASSISTANCE GIVEN TO AFFECTED MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY
In accordance with the non profit organisation , the people who lost their homes got the assistance that they needed from the organisation.They got assistance in the form of meals that were hot , baby food , mattress, blankets and many more .
There is hope that when the flood waters in the river get lowered ,water from the Central Business District will also recede . A few days ago , the Premier Mr Sihle Zikalala made a plea for some of Kwa-Zulu Natal to be declared National State of Disaster following storms that hit the places in December . The extent of the damages on Ladysmith CBD is yet to be determined .
