BREAKING | A Man Was Hit And Killed By A Train In Downtown Austin On Thursday Morning.

A man was hit and killed by a Union Pacific freight train in downtown Austin early Thursday morning, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. Officers went to the incident near 1003 West 3rd Street and Lamar Blvd. around 12:46 a.m., according to Austin police. Officers discovered the man dead when they arrived. On the scene, the person was pronounced dead.

At 3:34 p.m., a video clip went viral online showing a man in his 30s or 40s wedged between a high-speed train and the edge of the train station platform. According to the news website hk01.com. Other video footage show individuals standing beside the victim, presumably waiting for a rescue crew while keeping the station in order.


After using jackhammers and other equipment to collapse part of the platform to rescue him, the victim was ultimately taken out around 5:20 p.m.


The event occurred when a D3026 high-speed train from Shanghai Hongqiao Station, heading for Hankou in central China's Hubei province, arrived at the Nanjing station, according to a post on the station's Weibo page, Tencent News said.


A man, whose age and identity were not revealed, jumped off Platform No. 22 and across the rail tracks in an attempt to reach Platform No. 21 just as the train was coming to a stop at Platform No. 21.


He was presumably caught in the tight gap between the train and the platform after his effort failedccording to the post, a doctor on the site confirmed him deceased. The event is currently being investigated by the police.
