A plea was made for donations to assist some people in KZN after the floods

There is an ongoing assessment of the situation in Ladysmith , Kwa-Zulu Natal following the flooding that took place after a spell of torrential rain . The rains led to the destruction of infrastructure and people's homes , leading to their evacuation.

The Kwa-Zulu Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance Mr Sipho Hlomula was invited on the eNCA to give an update of what was happening in Ladysmith . When he was asked to give an update regarding the number of people who had been evacuated , he said that they managed to evacuate 150 and they were getting assistance . Mr Sipho also confirmed that there was no fatality that had been recorded and that they were waiting for communication from the people on the ground .


During the interview, the MEC used that opportunity to plead for assistance from the members public .Sipho pleaded for the people of South Africa to step up and assist the affected people of Kwa-Zulu Natal .

He called on everyone to step forward and assist with anything that may go a long way towards assisting those in need . Advise that was issued to those members of the public who could want to help was that they could contact the Disaster Management Teams on how they could make their donations .

When the MEC was asked when they would be able to drain away the flood water and help the situation to return to normal , he said that they were still monitoring the situation and that they would not make the people who had been evacuated to return as yet . As to when life would be returning to normal , Mr Sipho again said that they were monitoring the situation , but they would be in a better position to comment on that question next week .
