Good Samaritan steals a baby, here is what happened

KwaZulu-Natal police are looking for a woman who allegedly kidnapped a baby in Durban earlier this week.

According to Captain Nqobile Gwala of the provincial SAPS, the mother was waiting for a bus when she was approached by the woman.

"After learning that the mother was unemployed, the woman in her thirties offered to buy groceries for the child. The complainant and the woman took a taxi to Durban's Dr. Pixley Kaseme Street, where the woman bought some baby clothes "Gwala explained.

They went to a store, she said, and the suspect gave the mother money to buy baby supplies.

According to Gwala, the woman told the baby's mother to leave the baby with her while she went shopping for the necessary items.

"The complainant had left her baby with a woman who was standing outside the store. After a few moments, the child's mother returned from the store and discovered that the woman had vanished with the child. A kidnapping case has been opened for investigation "Gwala explained.

Anyone with information that could help Durban Central detectives with their investigation is asked to contact Sergeant Zulu, the investigating officer, at 082 750 8947/ 031 325 4079 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
