Woman overpowers gun-toting uncle after his gun jams three times

He pulled the trigger on his niece three times.

But every time he tried to shoot, the gun jammed.

When the gun failed for the third time, Dipuo Tshabalala said she had to act and protect herself from her gun-toting uncle.

Speaking to Reporters, Dipuo from Alexandra, Johannesburg said she jumped on her uncle and hit him.

“I overpowered him, took the gun away from him, and started hitting him with it,” she said.

She said her uncle has been trying to take her house which was left to her by her parents. “It is my house and I have all the documents to show it is my house.

“But my uncle doesn’t want to see me owning the house and he comes to me every time to harass me.”

She said although she is used to seeing her uncle harassing and intimidating her, she didn’t think it would come to this. “If the gun didn’t jam, I wouldn’t be talking to you now.

“After he surrendered, I threw the gun under the bed and ran out of the house seeking help,” she said.

She said the man walked a walk of shame leaving the house. “Those who saw him the following day told me that he had a swollen face.”

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
